Multilingual Lessons in Courses

When a user selects a language in the Learner Portal, buttons and navigation items are automatically translated to match the user's choice.

To provide a comprehensive multilingual experience in the LMS, administrators can configure a single Course to have multiple versions based on the selected language. This can be achieved through the Course edit view > Translation Overrides tab, and by creating lessons in multiple languages.

Each Course version must include unique lessons tailored to the supported language.

As learners access the course in the Learner Portal, they see only the lessons available in the chosen language.

If a user changes their language preference, the lessons corresponding to the new selection are displayed.

 

Create a Lesson for a Specific Language

Go to Learning > click Lessons > click New

 

Overview tab

In the Overview tab, give this Lesson a Title. When naming the lesson there are two recommended options:

1. Name the lesson in the native language; as it should appear in the Learner Portal
   1. Example: Curso 101
2. Retain an original, base language title, with a callout to the translation
   1. Example: Course 101 (Español)

Option 1 is generally easier for learners and Option 2 is often used to prioritize the Administrator’s experience of organizing the Lessons and their content. 

 

Details tab

In the Details tab, select the corresponding Language. 

 

Add content of the same language to this Lesson. This requires Admins to create language-specific quizzes, interactive content, surveys, and other content.

 

Create a Language-Specific Version of a Course

Once a language-specific lesson has been created, the Course can be customized to reflect the learner’s language selection.

Go to Learning > click Courses > select an existing course

 

Then, select the Translation overrides tab. 

 

Select one of the supported languages and click to Enable the override. 

 

Provide a translation for the Title, Description, and other necessary fields included on this page. Additional fields include the video, various button texts, the instructor list, and Final Course Survey. 

 

If this course uses an eLearning Package, then scroll to the bottom of the page and select a translated package for this language. The selected package only appears in the Learner Portal when the corresponding language is selected by the user. 

 

In the Content tab, select the same Language.

Click Add Existing Lesson. Search for the lesson in the corresponding language and click Add.

 

Select a new language and observe that the previously added lesson isn’t shown. Selecting a new language only shows lessons in that language.

Admins may create as many course versions as necessary to support all languages enabled in the User Portal.

The following are possible general use cases for utilizing this feature:

 

Delivering Training to a Global Workforce

A multinational company wants to deliver onboarding training in the local languages of each regional office, ensuring all employees have access to the same materials in their preferred language.

This feature is useful because:

• Admins can create parallel lessons and courses for each supported language

• Learners automatically see content in their selected language

• Navigation and system text are localized throughout the portal

Example Use Case
A company with offices in Canada, France, and Brazil creates versions of “Company Orientation” in English, French, and Portuguese. Employees are shown the appropriate version based on their language setting — with no extra navigation required.

 

Reducing Administrative Overhead for Multilingual Content

An L&D manager wants to simplify maintenance by managing all language versions of a course from a single interface, instead of duplicating and managing separate courses.

This feature is useful because:

• Courses include a Translation Overrides tab for centralized management

• All versions share the same course ID and reporting history

• Content can be swapped or edited without affecting other languages

Example Use Case
Rather than duplicating a “Workplace Safety” course for Spanish and German, an admin uses Translation Overrides to create language-specific versions within the same course. Lessons, quizzes, and certificates are mapped per language, minimizing confusion in reporting.

 

Improving the Learner Experience for Non-English Users

A training lead wants learners to feel confident and supported by accessing content in their native language — increasing comprehension and completion rates.

This feature is useful because:

• Language-specific lessons ensure cultural and linguistic relevance

• Learners only see the lessons tied to their selected language

• Consistent UX across languages reduces friction

Example Use Case
A Spanish-speaking user selects “Español” in the Learner Portal. They are enrolled in a Compliance course and only see lessons titled and authored in Spanish — including localized quizzes and video instructions — while still following the same course flow as other learners.
