Admins can constantly update Courses to include new material. When new Lessons are added to or removed from a Course, Admins can also refresh the course progress so that users see a more accurate completion percentage in their dashboards. This also reflects a more accurate course completion percentage for reporting.
This article outlines the following concepts:
- Edit Lesson(s) in a Course
- Course Events and Final Course Surveys
- Refresh Individual Course Progress
Edit Lesson(s) in a Course
The refresh course progress function can only be applied when Lessons have been added to or removed from a Course. This can be accomplished at the Course level or the Lesson level.
Course Level
Go to the Content tab of a Course.
Click Create new Lesson or Add existing Lesson to include additional lessons in this course.
Or, click the x icon beside a Lesson to remove it from a Course. Unpublishing a lesson also affects the course progress calculation.
Click Save.
Lesson Level
Go to the Details tab of a Lesson.
Assign this course to a specific lesson.
Click Save.
Course Events and Final Course Surveys
Course Events and Final Course Survey behave similarly to lessons in the context of a course. They are also included in the calculation of course progress under the following conditions:
- Course Events are only calculated in course progress when registration is required
- If “Allow learners to register for all events” is enabled, all included Course Events are used in the progress calculation.
- If “Allow learners to register for all events” is disabled, progress calculation only inludes the number set in “Course Event Registration limit”
- Final Course Surveys are only calculated in course progress if it is required for course completion
Refresh Individual Course Progress
Once a Course has been updated with new Lesson(s), Course progress can be refreshed.
Go to Learning > click Courses > select the course that includes new lessons
Go to the Learner Progress tab.
View the current progress percentage and any completed dates for users.
Click Refresh progress.
Admins are shown a confirmation toast. The recalculation refresh can take up to several minutes to complete. Click Yes, refresh course progress to proceed.
- Loss of a previously granted award
When the refresh recalculations are completed, progress percentages are updated based on the amount of new lessons included in the course.
For example:
- A user has completed all three of the lessons in a course. This grants them a 100% progress percentage.
- An Admin adds one new lesson to the course and refreshes the course progress.
- The user is now shown to have 75% progress because they have completed 3 out of the new total 4 lessons.
It may take a couple minutes for progress to be refreshed properly. A loading spinner is shown while the calculation occurs.
Any previously shown completed dates are zeroed out.
When an Admin awards course completion to a user manually through the User Manager, their course progress is NOT updated through a progress refresh
