Make people sign in before they join a virtual event, so attendance is recorded against their own account.
What changes
When you edit an event, a new switch, Require sign-in to join, appears next to the virtual meeting settings. For an event with the switch on, the join link in registration emails, reminders, calendar downloads, the "add to calendar" links and the instructor desk sends people to your branded sign-in page (or your single sign-on) first. After signing in they go straight into the meeting.
- The link identifies the event and meeting only. Who joins is decided by who is signed in.
- A forwarded link can check in only the person who is signed in, and only if that person is registered. Anyone else is shown a message with a link to the event page.
- Instructors (hosts) can join without a registration.
- Auto check-in matches manual check-in: cancelled and waitlisted registrants are never marked attended, and a full room is respected.
- Events without the switch keep the open guest link, which prefills a guest name but is not a real sign-in.
Why admins switch it on
- Attendance records show the real person, which matters for certification and compliance training.
- A forwarded invitation cannot be used to check in someone who is not registered.
Before you switch it on
- The switch is set per event. Turn it off for events open to guests without accounts, because those guests would be asked to sign in.
- Join links already sent stay valid for months in people's calendars, even if the feature is switched off later.
- The switch only appears in the event editor once the feature is enabled for your site.
How to get this
This feature is included in your plan. Ask us to switch it on and we'll enable it for your site, usually within 1 business days. Tell us if you'd like it on a test site first.
