Connect a Microsoft mailbox to your LMS by signing in, and platform email is sent through that mailbox with no stored password.
What it does
Normally the LMS sends email through its built-in service or through an SMTP username and password you enter. With a connected mailbox, an admin signs in to the mailbox once, and the LMS sends your site's email through it from then on.
Microsoft mailboxes are available now. Connecting a Google mailbox arrives in a later release.
Connect a Microsoft mailbox
- Go to Configuration > Email and open an email configuration, or create one and save it. A new configuration must be saved first; until then the page tells you to save the settings and come back to connect an account.
- In the card Secure connection (OAuth2), select Connect Microsoft account.
- Sign in to the Microsoft mailbox you want to send from and approve the request.
- You return to the email settings, where the card reads "Connected as" followed by the mailbox address.
Check the Mail from address
Under SMTP Settings, Mail from is the address email is sent from. When you connect, the LMS sets Mail from to the connected mailbox. Keep it that way unless the mailbox has a Send As alias for another address. Providers reject messages whose Mail from does not match the connected mailbox.
Which sites use it
The Usage card on the same page lists the sites that use this email configuration. Email for those sites goes through the connected mailbox.
Disconnect
Select Disconnect on the card and confirm. The configuration then goes back to your earlier email settings.
Why admins switch it on
- Send from your own company mailbox and domain.
- No SMTP password to store, share or rotate.
- Sign-in based access that your IT team can review and revoke in the mail provider.
Before you switch it on
- Use a mailbox that is allowed to send mail by SMTP in your Microsoft 365 tenant. Your IT team may need to approve the connection.
- Once connected, outgoing email for that site goes through the mailbox ahead of the built-in service and any custom SMTP settings. If the connection ever fails, the LMS falls back to your earlier email settings rather than stopping email.
- Make sure Mail from matches the mailbox (see above).
- If the feature is switched off for your site later, connecting is refused and the connected mailbox is no longer used for sending.
- Google: the Connect Google account button is hidden until Google support is enabled. The card text then names both providers. Do not plan around Google yet.
How to get this
This feature is included in your plan. Ask us to switch it on and we'll enable it for your site, usually within 1 business days. Tell us if you'd like it on a test site first.
