On Saturday, 4/9/2022, Tovuti will be moving away from fixed IP references and moving to the high availability approach of CNAMES. These provide the greatest survivability and benefit to Tovuti’s clients.
You will need to implement this change to your custom domain(s) in your DNS Prior to 4/9/2022 in order to not encounter issues with your domain.
Root Domain Instructions
Here are simple instructions for you to move your custom domains to our new CNAME capability. Since Godaddy is most widely used we will use them as an example.
- Login to your Tovuti Site → Admin → Design Center → Domain
- If you have not added a “www.” version of your custom domain, please do so.
You will need both a www. version and a non-www. version. - Open your Custom Domain in Tovuti after Submitting and Copy the DNS Value listed (us.tovuti.io, for example)
- Go to your Domain Host / DNS Provider and follow your provider’s instructions on adding a CNAME Record with the Value from Step 3 - (we have provided the steps used for Godaddy)
- After logging into the Domain Host / DNS Provider go to the Manage DNS for the domain
- If you already have CNAME Record with the Name “www” then you just need to edit it to match the settings shown in the images below. It should point to the value from Step 3
- If you do not have a CNAME Record with the Name “www” then you will need to add it.
- After you have successfully added the “www” CNAME Record you can forward the Root Domain (that is the non-www version). Important Note: Forwarding your Root Domain to the www version will only work when using http:// and NOT https:// in the browser address bar.
An example of this is you can forward:
http://zenfullyeasy.com to https://www.zenfullyeasy.com
but not:
https://zenfullyeasy.com to https://www.zenfullyeasy.com
9. Go to the Forwarding Section on the page and click Add Forwarding
10. Then use the setting below:
-
- Select https://
- Enter the “www” version of the domain
- Select Permanent (301) as the Forwarding Type
- Click Save
11. If you already have A Record that is pointing to IP Address (35.167.138.201) you will need to Delete the A Record.
Please contact our Tovuti Support Team if you have any questions, however, we recommend first contacting your IT Department or your DNS Provider’s Support Team (GoDaddy Support, for example) if you need assistance with this change.
Sub-Domain Instructions
Here are simple instructions for you to move your custom domains to our new CNAME capability.
Since Godaddy is most widely used we will use them as an example.
- Login to your Tovuti Site → Admin → Design Center → Domain
- Open your Custom Domain in Tovuti after Submitting and Copy the DNS Value listed (us.tovuti.io, for example)
- Go to your Domain Host / DNS Provider and follow your provider’s instructions on adding a CNAME Record with the Value from Step 3 - (we have provided the steps used for Godaddy)
- After logging into the Domain Host / DNS Provider go to the Manage DNS for the domain
- If you already have A Record with the Name used for the Subdomain (in this example we are using the subdomain lms.zenfullyeasy.com so the name is “lms”) then you need to delete the A Record and Add a CNAME Record with the settings as shown in the images below. It should point to the value from Step 3
- If you already have A Record that is pointing to IP Address (35.167.138.201) you will need to Delete the A Record.
Important Note: Changing your DNS from an A Record to the CNAME Record can result in temporary downtime for this domain as it propagates and becomes active. This downtime can vary based on the Domain Host / DNS Provider and the TTL setting. For quicker Time To Live (TTL) and decrease possible downtime set the TTL to 600 seconds (10 minutes). You should plan this transition during low traffic times to decrease interruption.
Please contact our Tovuti Support Team if you have any questions, however, we recommend first contacting your IT Department or your DNS Provider’s Support Team (GoDaddy Support, for example) if you need assistance with this change.
